STEEL DRIVESHAFTS

Seam Tube - This is the driveshaft that will come standard as a part of the PerfectFit™ Kit, the others are optional upgrades. This is the most common OEM application, perfectly suited for everyday applications, restored cars or could be carefully used in circle track and drag racing applications. Pros: The most cost effective driveshaft you will ever find. Cons: The weakest of all the steel driveshaft, the lowest critical speed and heavy. Applications: Perfectly restored cars can be used in circle track and drag racing applications. Steel weld yokes.

Chrome Moly – Steel tube usually drawn over mandrel (D.O.M.) with chromium and molibdium added. This is the top of the line steel driveshaft usually used for very high horsepower, heavy cars. Pros: Very high torsional strength Cons: The most expensive of all steel driveshafts, only available in 3” diameter and heavy. Steel weld yokes.

D.O.M. 4140 - This is the most common racing shaft available, from circle track to drag racing there’s something to fit every application. As long as the shaft is sized correctly there’s no car that can overpower this shaft. Pros: Much stronger than seam tube, relatively high critical speed. Cons: Not many, only slightly more expensive than a seam tube driveshaft, heavy. Steel weld yokes.

ALUMINUM DRIVESHAFTS

6061 T6 - This is the most common OEM application for an aluminum driveshaft. Best suited for everyday applications or restoration cars, sometimes a nice alternative to the heavy steel shaft but only suited for moderate horsepower. Pros: Light weight, never rust and higher critical speed than steel shafts. Cons: The weakest of all driveshafts. Remember this is the same driveshaft used on applications such as the Astro van. Aluminum weld yokes.

Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) - This is a unique high performance aluminum with silicon, ceramic and carbide added to the molten aluminum. Where legal this is a great application for both circle track and drag racing. Pros: Light weight, very torsionally stiff for aluminum and very strong. Cons: One of the more expensive materials but you get what you pay for. Aluminum weld yokes.

COMPOSITE DRIVESHAFT

Carbon Fiber - This is technology at its finest, usually wound over mandrel fiber soaked with resin. Very well suited for circle track and drag racing. Pros: Very light weight and ultra strong. Cons: By far and a way the most expensive of all driveshafts. Steel or aluminum weld yokes.

HYBRID DRIVESHAFT

Aluminum w/ Carbon Fiber Wrap - Any of the aluminum driveshafts with a thin carbon fiber wrap over the outside diameter of the tube. Pros: light weight with extra strength and high critical speed. Price is less than a standard carbon fiber and is still an aluminum shaft. Cons: Still not cheap. Aluminum weld yokes.
